Calling Reno home since 1971, I moved through the Washoe County School District graduating Edward C. Reed in 1979. Concurrently while a business owner in the SCUBA diving industry I went on to earn my bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Nevada, Reno (1987). In 1989 Dean Witter Financial (now Morgan Stanley) invited me to become a Financial Advisor. This lasted until 1996 when my partner and father, Dale McClellan (1935-2000) and I relocated our client centric financial practice to Dain Bosworth. After several years in the “wire house” side of the industry, the firm culminated into RBC Dain Rauscher and in 2006 along with three of my most trusted, respected and experienced partners at RBC we established Legacy Wealth Planning (LWP) on March 17, 2006; a financial company focused on our clients and independence. We establish our motto of, “Independent Advisors for Independent Investors”, a venture I considered one of my best life decisions; then and now over 18 years later (2024).
Proud
I take immense pride in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit that brought a much-needed financial planning resource to our community completely free from the corporate bias present at the large Wall Street firms. Here I can serve as a Professional LPL Financial Advisor while prioritizing my clients’ needs and guiding them professionally through life’s financial hurdles.
Life Pride /Accomplishments
Married for over 32 years, I have three adult children making positive contributions to our local and state economies. My family has grown to 10 with the addition of the 3 spectacular spouses my children have partnered and in 2021 and 2023 the addition of my granddaughters. The latter two now being me and my wife’s highest life priority.
Outside of family I find building and working on global underwater environmental projects a sub-priority. I founded in 2001 New Millennium Dive Expeditions (NMDE.org), a non-profit scientific underwater diving organization focusing on Lake Tahoe’s environmental and historical issues. In 2018 NMDE escalated into Project Baseline (projectbaseline.org) which is a “global” organization focused upon the same values as NMDE. My over 6-decades of life have seen me volunteer for Lions Clubs International (1996-2007), the Washoe County School District (2002-2014) supporting my children’s extracurricular activities and Lake Tahoe-related environmental and historical concerns. I enjoy hiking, traveling, camping and just about anything with my growing family.
